The final album produced when Chapin was alive.
And some are not new to me.
Sequel: I sang along to this with great joy while starting to make dinner.
I Miss America: A view of watching the country decay from what it used to be. Imagine what his view would be now?
Story Of A Life: I like this one, it tells the story of someone’s life.
Remember When the Music: I’ve heard this one multiple times before. Seems to be a song about how older music used to inspire the listener. I think it’s a take on getting older.
Up On The Shelf: I’ve heard this one before but not really listened to it. It’s good. I hate that I know he passed shortly after this album, this feels like goodbye.
Salt And Pepper: This is a cute story about an old salt dog and his wife
God Babe, You’ve Been Good To Me: This one is new to me, seems like a song about seeking companionship.
North West 222: I think this song title is also one of Kanye’s kids names. Okay I could see this being covered as a pop country song. It’s got a truck, a road, city names, a love that is many miles away. I also like how they added effects to the bass drum, there is a phaser on it that they open some and it adds a neat texture. Could also look at the song as a complaint that the narrator is going to have to learn a new route.
I Finally Found It Sandy: A song for his wife. The arrangement is unlike what I’ve come to expect.
Remember When the Music (Reprise): A more acoustic version.
There are a few more songs on the streaming version of this album but they are different productions of songs already on the album.
I don’t know if I will listen to The Last Protest Singer or Cotton Patch Gospel as part of this. I will likely listen to The Last Protest Singer not sure about the Gospel album. I was under the impression that Chapin was an atheist so a Gospel album seems weird.
