Another short turn around

This was released less than a year after Axis and again shows growth, a further mixing of the blues and psychedelia. It was during this listen that I realized this is a three piece. That makes it all the more incredible. This album seems to me to be the one that shows the most versatility from the band. I want to say that this album (out of the 3 studio albums) is probably the most accessible, however it could just be the quantity of music that makes it feel that way. There is plenty of very experimental music on this album.

One thing I would say is the production on this album seems better than the previous. I noticed on some songs on the debut album the bass and drums were ducked under the guitar attack. Normally I would expect that on a dance track for the bass drum hit. It was weird for the guitar to take audible right of way away from the rest of the band. I don’t hear the same weird production decisions on this album but I do still hear experimentation. Jimi is credited as the producer. I suspect he wasn’t just idle involved with the board but was also heavily involved in the post production, there are many layers that overlap and others that don’t overlap as they are panned left or right.

I really enjoyed that. I see that there are live albums available but I think I am good on the Hendrix binge for now. I am not sure if I am going to continue my 27 club exploration, perhaps later I will return to morbidly listening to albums. But I think I will listen to a new release tomorrow.
