For once

I don’t really have much to say before the album. I like Heart. I recognize Magic Man and Crazy On You. I am fully expecting this to be a female answer to Led Zeppelin in this album.

Magic Man

A tale of a woman telling her family about her new partner. I’ve heard it many many times and I really enjoy it.

Dreamboat Annie(Fantasy Child)

Ocean sounds. Honestly not sure what this one is about, perhaps it will be clarified on the other 2 songs that also share it’s name on the album. I like the soft folky feel.

Crazy On You

The second of the songs I knew from this album. A song of love from the perspective of someone who is just entering adulthood.

Soul Of The Seas

Another use of the ocean sounds. It’s a song with different moods. The start seems to be another love song. Then the middle seems to describe someone who truly hates their current position in life. The end is very much like the beginning however seems much darker now given what preceded it.

Dreamboat Annie

The banjo roll in the middle of the song is a nice contrasting sound. So this expands upon the first title track, it almost sounds like a commercial for a cruise.

White Lighting And Wine

A song about getting drunk and having one night stands. Almost a take on southern rock, the first song I felt ventured into that realm. Neat guitar solo. I think it could also legitimately use some more cowbell.

(Love Me Like Music) I’ll Be Your Song

This one has a country feel. I really enjoy what I think is a steel guitar. It’s a song about working together in a relationship. I really like this.

Sing Child

The meaning is a bit beside the point here. This is an awesome piece of music. The lyrics are instructing someone to perform a task they have been taught and instructed. It’s delivered in the style of a pimp talking to a prostitute.

How Deep It Goes

Keys are more prevalent here, they haven’t been for a lot of the album. There is also flute and several orchestral strings that I’ve not heard much of. I feel like this was probably a single or planned single, it feels much more produced. It’s very pretty. Pop folk.

Dreamboat Annie (Reprise)

The final version of this song. Oh the orchestral instruments didn’t all leave. And the banjo I think.

That was not what I expected

I was expecting a female Led Zeppelin experience and I did get some of that. I got a lot more country, folky, pop stuff. I quite enjoyed it. I am not sure what I think about the title track and its evolution over the album. I knew in advance that the vocals were going to be amazing. I don’t think listening has made me a bigger fan of Heart, I liked their stuff before this listen. However, it gives me perspective from where they came from and a deeper appreciation.
