Twitch streams

I was watching a twitch stream last night where a guy I know was performing requests and a song from this band came up. It seemed delightfully gritty. I was intrigued and figured I would check out their debut album

The Ballad Of Lester Walker

A song about a boy who leaves home, his mother is sad but expects him to return home. The boy falls in love with another man. This man is murdered and the subject of the song commits suicide. The mother is at a loss that her child is gone but has closure because she knows where he is now.

Where Is She

A song about encountering someone in a bar. I like the bluesy feel of the music.

Happy Days

This is almost like folk punk. A song about hard partying on the weekends.

Gough

So I did a search on this one, apparently this is a song about Australian politics and politicians.

Mum’s Going Out

Okay

Pigeons In The Attic Room

A breakup song, with a twist.

Woody

Interesting, it appears that this is a song about Woody Allen and Mia Farrow. The narrator is a Woody Allen fan who is in disbelief after finding out about allegations of sexual abuse.

Jumpin’ Leprechauns

A celebration of music.

I’m Different

A song talking about being proud of diversity?

Winter Lovin’

A bluesy song about seeking companionship. There is also a live set of outtakes or reprises from previous songs at the end which is neat.

That was

I did enjoy that. It’s just playful music. Reminds me of The Pogues, Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, Violent Femmes, and Harley Poe. Rather intrigued and I will likely listen to some of their other albums to see where it went from here.
