I think I listened to this or parts of it around it’s release

I’ve explored new releases for several years listening to new albums or parts of them to hear new music. I think that I listened to some of this when it was released.

This album is new wave! Well not really but it’s got synths. In Cutting Stone the synth adds a little garnish to the background but they are fully featured in Severed with a near industrial beat. I really wasn’t expecting this at all.

The band does a decent amount of musical experimentation on albums however I think this album is an example of the most extreme they have put out on their albums. I did see that they have companion discs to a lot of their albums that could be like an expansion or an answer to each. I may check some of those out, perhaps they have more experimentation.

I really like Rusalka,Rusalka / Wild Rushes. It tells the story of a person who succumbs to a siren or some other river predator that tempts men into the river to their deaths, from the point of view of the victim.

It’s been over a week of listening to this band almost daily. I’ve come to expect whimsical folky songs. The band has taken a lot of inspiration from so many different artists. To name a few Sid Barrett’s Pink Floyd, Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, and The Pogues.

I’ve enjoyed their catalog and really want to see if I can find some of their live performances.
